Lights Out!

“So, heat is the sixth sense, and a seventh is gravity. I do not need to see where I am to know if I am upside down or not… Proprioception would be the eighth sense: it is the body’s innate sense of its own position.”

Lights Out is partly inspired by Elkins’ expansions on the possibilities of human sensorial experience in context to the phenomena of daydreaming.

This immersive and interactive artwork is designed to include the body as a tool to create and imprint the physicality of making images inspired by the subconscious. Using a photoluminescent surface, the visuals created immediately begin to deteriorate and ultimately fade away. This represents the transience of these experiences.

Lights Out utilises the darkened space as a critical environment to consider one’s own thoughts and action. This results in the visual and sounded manifestation of the relationship between the mind and the body.
